Material Matching

For highly viscous, easily caked, or fibrous materials (e.g., sludge, food waste), a shaftless design is mandatory. If the material is dry and non-sticky, traditional shafted equipment is sufficient.

Capacity & Size Evaluation

Select the appropriate screw diameter based on the required hourly conveying volume (m³/h). Note that when the inclination angle exceeds 15°, the conveying capacity must be multiplied by a corresponding reduction factor (e.g., the factor is about 0.65 at 20°).

Material & Liner Selection

When conveying corrosive materials (e.g., sewage, chemical waste), the casing and screw body should be made of 304 or 316L stainless steel. It is highly recommended to install wear-resistant non-metallic liners inside the trough to extend the equipment's service life.

Installation & Maintenance

Installation Standards

The drive unit is recommended to be installed at the discharge end so that the screw body is in tension during operation. Flanges at the inlet and outlet must fit tightly. The equipment must be started without load (start when the casing is empty, and stop only after materials are completely discharged).

Daily Maintenance

Regularly check the oil level of the reducer; inspect the wear of the trough liners and replace them promptly if severely worn; never remove the cover during operation to avoid safety accidents.

Fault Prevention

Strictly prevent large, hard foreign objects (e.g., metal tools, stones) from mixing into the materials to avoid jamming and deforming the screw blades. Feeding should be uniform to prevent instantaneous overload and damage to the drive unit.

Q1: Why does a shaftless screw conveyor not need intermediate hanger bearings?

Traditional shafted screws require hanger bearings to support the long shaft, which is exactly where sticky materials are most likely to wrap and jam. The shaftless screw uses a flexible integral steel blade, driven directly from the drive end and sliding on bottom wear-resistant liners. This fundamentally eliminates the need for intermediate support and completely removes the risk of wrapping.

Q2: Can this equipment convey materials vertically?

It is not recommended. Shaftless screw conveyors are mainly suitable for horizontal or small-angle inclined conveying (typically ≤30°). If the angle is too steep or vertical, materials will fall back severely due to gravity, rendering the equipment inoperable. For vertical lifting, a bucket elevator is recommended instead.

Q3: What should be done if the screw blades wear out too quickly?

In shaftless screws, the stress is concentrated on the blades. Blades that are too thin or have a pitch that is too small can cause crushing damage. It is recommended to use thickened wear-resistant blades and install high-strength wear-resistant liners (such as UHMWPE boards) at the bottom of the U-shaped trough. This not only protects the blades but also reduces operating noise.
